FAQ

ABOUT LITTLE LENDABLES

Collapsible content

What is Little Lendables?

We’re a premium baby clothing rental service, providing zero-waste, ethical, and sustainable capsule wardrobes at 70% less than retail during the most consumptive stages of growth — the first two years.

Who owns the company?

We're a family-run business based out of St. Albert, AB. Elizabeth runs the operations, Kyle manages the finances, and we both take turns chasing our three little ones around (except for the baby; she can't move very far yet).

Rental Process

Collapsible content

How do I place a rental order?

To start, you'll need to select a membership plan and create an account, then you can add items from the rental collection to your cart before you checkout. You'll be able to see how many credits you have available as you're shopping.

What happens after I order?

After your order is placed and shipped, the bundle will arrive straight to your front door, pre-washed and ready-to-wear.

When you need a new size or just something different, log in to your customer account to request a return and choose your new items. No need to send anything back until the new order is in your hands.

If you have any issues, we're here to help every step of the way.

How much does it cost to rent?

We have three levels of membership available, from $50 monthly up to $100 monthly, depending on how many items you're looking to rent.

Each level has an allotment of credits to spend per bundle, and the credit cost per item is based on its value (1 credit = approx. $10).

You can review our Membership Plans here.

What age range does the clothing cover?

We carry sizes NB up to 24M. At this time, there are no plans to extend our sizing any larger, but we are planning a preemie collection.

When should I order for a new baby?

Congratulations if you're expecting! Babies are pretty great.

We recommend ordering 3-4 weeks before your due date to ensure you're prepared for any surprises.

What types of items are available?

We carry everyday baby and toddler wear, sleepwear, accessories (hats, bows, etc.), and a small selection of footwear for the littlest customers.

Future expansions that we're considering include outerwear, sleeping bags, formal wear, holiday and birthday clothing, and costumes. The intent with any expansion will be to minimize environmental impact.

How long can I keep the clothes for?

As long as you want! While the clothes are with you, you'll continue to be charged monthly, but there's no need to return anything before you're ready.

We'll send you reminder when we get our seasonal collections in, but its entirely up to you when to request a new bundle.

How do I know what condition the clothes are in?

All clothing in our rental collection is in new, like-new or very good condition. Items are retired for sale if there is visible staining or obvious repairs.

Will more clothing items become available?

We have a lot of stock, but it will take us a bit of time to get the full catalogue available for rental. Items will continue to be added daily, so check back often.

CLOTHING CARE

Collapsible content

What happens if an item gets stained or damaged?

We provide wear & tear coverage with all our membership plans. Unless the damage exceeds what would be considered reasonable, there's no charge.

Are there any special washing instructions?

We have some recommendations to keep clothes looking their best (below), but we don't want to make your life more complicated! If its just too much to change up your laundry routine, please continue to do what works for you.

The best part — you can return them unwashed! In fact, we prefer it that way. All returns go through our cleaning process regardless, so feel free to save some water.

From a sustainability perspective, we strongly recommend that our clothes be washed in cold with a detergent that is scent-free, eco-friendly, and gentle on clothes. Our personal favourite is Attitude Living Baby Leaves Unscented.

We also recommend either air-drying, or drying on an extra-low heat setting. Aside from keeping the clothes in good shape, dryers use a substantial amount of energy.

100% cotton and wool-containing items are best washed inside out to prevent pilling, and wool items should be laid flat to dry.

How do you clean the clothes between customers?

We steam sanitize all our clothes and wash in an EWG-verified, vegan, unscented laundry detergent (free of phosphates, enzymes, dyes, SLES, and optical brighteners).

SUSTAINABILITY

Collapsible content

What happens to items that can't be rented?

If an item returns to us with a stain or damage, it is taken out of circulation until it can be cleaned and/or repaired. If staining remains visible or the repair is obvious, the item will be retired and available for sale in a preloved clothing drop.

If an item is in a truly unwearable condition, it will find a new, upcycling home.

Is renting really better for the environment?

The lowest environmental impact is ongoing re-wear; 90% of carbon emissions occur with garment production, so the more times an item can be worn, the better. Babies grow so quickly that getting enough wear out of an item can be tricky if you don't have a pile of usable hand-me-downs.

It also matters how the garments are produced. Not many parents want to spend, or are able to afford, the price of truly sustainable clothing. Renting from us helps support brands that do better, and for a fraction of the cost.

Regarding our more immediate impact at Little Lendables, all orders within the Edmonton region are delivered by electric hybrid and our office space is 100% solar-powered.

We also keep our deliveries as low-waste as possible, by reusing packaging wherever possible and encouraging customers to reuse our boxes for order returns.

How are you able to quantify environmental impact?

The data we use to quantify the environmental impact of renting is taken from a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) conducted by the Danish consultancy firm PlanMiljø in 2019 for Circos, a Danish children's clothing rental company. Our dream is to one day have our own LCA done.

What impact have your customers had so far?

We recently applied children's clothing rental Life Cycle Assessment data from Europe to our first group of customers (under our former name, Habiller Baby Clothing Rentals).

Our results:

  • 720kgCO2 offset carbon emissions
  • 8693L of water saved
  • 29 lb of textile waste kept out of landfills
